The two year Education and Human Services program includes instruction in human growth and development, planning and supervision of learning activities, child abuse and neglect awareness and prevention, family relationships, legal and administrative requirements, supporting those with special needs, and mental health issues. Along with these topics we explore career options and programs related to each.
Throughout the program, students will gain practical hands-on experience working in various facets of the field of education and human services. This includes an internship with the ARC, as well as placements in K-12 classrooms, and other areas of interest. Throughout the program, students will meet all requirements necessary to sit for the teaching assistant certification exam upon graduation. This includes Dignity for All Students (DASA) and Schools Against Violence in Education (SAVE) training. Dual enrollment opportunities also exist for students, allowing them to obtain college credits prior to graduation.
Integrated Academic Credits Available: 1 credit of Math, 1 credit of Science and 1 credit of ELA over the course of the two year curriculum.
Industry Certification/Concurrent Enrollment Credit Options: Students can earn First Aid and CPR/AED certification, DASA, SAVE, and Child Abuse Reporting Certifications. Students can sit for the NYS Teaching Certification Exam upon graduation.
College Agreements: SUNY Canton, and SUNY Jefferson Community College.
