Professions in Education

New Visions in Education will transition to Professions in Education June 2026. Professions in Education is a one-year program designed for high school seniors who are interested in the field of education. It could be a starting point for a career such as a classroom teacher or teaching assistant, special education teacher, preschool teacher, school counselor, and many other exciting opportunities for those wishing to work in an educational setting.

It is a highly academic program that includes the opportunity to earn college credits while still in high school. Students in this program will learn about human development, classroom/behavior management, lesson planning, different types of learners, assessing learners, teaching strategies, effective communication, the history of education, educational laws and policies, and much more!

In addition, Professions in Education students will receive training in DASA, SAVE and Mandated Reporting (child abuse education and prevention).

This program is designed for high school seniors with a desire to help and work with others.

Where is Professions in Education?

The classroom and workspace will be at John F. Kennedy Elementary School in Ogdensburg and only at the Northwest CTE Center. This will allow students to be immersed in an educational career themed setting throughout their entire time in the program. Throughout the year, 2-3 days per week, work and learning will take place alongside educational professionals in their classrooms and workspaces, under the supervision and guidance of the Professions in Education instructor.

Students who are currently high school juniors should visit their guidance counselor as soon as possible to sign up for Professions in Education enrollment for next school year!
